Explosion at Chalco gas station causes fire and injury

An explosion at a gas station in the municipality of Chalco, State of Mexico, this Wednesday caused a fire and injured one person. Laura Velázquez Alzúa, National Coordinator of Civil Protection, reported the incident, which occurred at 05:10 local time, inside the “Energético de Chalco” gas station, located on Tierra y Libertad street. According to the official, the fire was caused by gas accumulation from a leak in an apparent tanker truck. Velázquez Alzúa added that the injured person was transported by their own means, without specifying to where. The flames from the explosion and fire damaged nearby commercial premises, two houses, and a sports facility. Additionally, the streets where the incident occurred were closed. At 06:20, the fire was reported to be under control. Civil Protection deployed a Liaison and Coordination Mission (ECO) to assist the affected population. Elements from the CNPC, the Secretariat of National Defense, the State of Mexico Security Secretariat, the Amecameca Regional State Civil Protection Center, Municipal Civil Protection, the Chalco Fire Department, and the Municipal Police responded to the scene.
